Nathrop sits beside one of the most recreation-rich stretches of the Arkansas River, with Browns Canyon National Monument immediately nearby and several other well-known river sections within a short drive.
Browns Canyon is the classic choice for many visitors, combining Class III whitewater with granite canyon scenery and long stretches of river away from the highway.
More challenging whitewater can be found north toward The Numbers, while easier family-oriented sections are available farther south toward Salida.
