Just south of Buena Vista along the Arkansas River, Colorado Basecamps combines cabins, yurts, and modern chalets into one small riverfront retreat.
Arkansas River cabins are designed as private two-person stays, while the larger Lotus Belle yurts can accommodate couples, families, and small groups. The design-forward chalets add another level of comfort, including private hot tubs.
Guests also have access to a riverside bathhouse with hot showers, a sauna, outdoor gathering areas, river access, and seasonal breakfast service.
It's a particularly good fit if you like the idea of camping beside the river but would rather sleep in a real bed.

Historic Cabins Close to Town
You don't have to head deep into the mountains to get the cabin experience.
Vista Court Cabins & Lodge
Vista Court is a collection of historic log cabins, cottages, and lodge rooms on a tree-filled property near the west end of Main Street.
The property dates to the late 1940s and still has the feel of an old Colorado motor court, with individual porches, picnic areas, fire pits when restrictions allow, outdoor games, and plenty of shade.
There are eight historic log cabins, two larger cottages, and five smaller lodge rooms. Many of the cabins and cottages include kitchens, making them useful for multi-day stays.
Good for: families, classic cabin trips, kitchens, longer stays, and travelers who want to stay close to downtown without staying in a hotel.
Why Stay on This Side of Town?
The west side of Buena Vista gives you quick access toward Cottonwood Pass, Cottonwood Hot Springs, trailheads, and the Sawatch Range while keeping Main Street close enough for dinner, groceries, and coffee.
It's a good compromise if you want a quieter setting but don't want to spend the entire trip driving back and forth from an isolated rental.

The geothermal activity around Cottonwood Creek and Chalk Creek has created several unusual cabin properties where the hot spring isn't down the road. It's outside your door.
These tend to be more expensive than a standard cabin, but you're getting an experience that's difficult to duplicate: a private mountain cabin and natural mineral water reserved for your group.

Merrifield Homestead Cabins
Merrifield Homestead has just two cabins along Cottonwood Creek, and each has its own private natural hot spring pool.
The larger Merrifield Cabin accommodates up to four guests, while Holloway Cabin is the smaller two-person option. The setting is quiet and creekside, only a few minutes west of Buena Vista.
This is intentionally an unplugged stay. The cabins do not have Wi-Fi, although a landline is provided.
Charlotte Hot Springs & Botanical Gardens is nearby, but the private soaking pools at the cabins are reserved for cabin guests.
Good for: couples, private soaking, quiet trips, dogs, and travelers who actually want to unplug.
Why Cottonwood Creek?
This side of Buena Vista puts you directly on the road toward Cottonwood Pass, Cottonwood Lake, several major trailheads, and the western side of the Collegiate Peaks.
You're still close to downtown, but evenings feel much quieter once you leave town and follow the creek toward the mountains.
Chalk Creek Canyon
Private Hot Springs Beneath the Chalk Cliffs
South of Buena Vista, Chalk Creek Canyon has several of the valley's most distinctive hot spring stays.
Antero Hot Springs Cabins
Antero Hot Springs has three cabins tucked along Chalk Creek beneath the cliffs between Mount Antero and Mount Princeton: Hortense Cabin, Cottonwood Cabin, and Chalk Cliffs Chalet.
Each accommodation has its own hand-shaped, spring-fed mineral soaking pool immediately outside.
The cabins range from intimate historic log cabins to the larger Chalk Cliffs Chalet, which works better for families and groups. Kitchens and fireplaces make these true multi-day mountain stays rather than simple hotel rooms.
Antero does not allow pets, so travelers with dogs should choose another property.
Good for: couples, families, private hot springs, Chalk Creek, St. Elmo trips, winter getaways, and special occasions.
Aqua Hot Spring
Aqua is another private hot spring retreat along Chalk Creek, designed more around quiet and wellness than a traditional resort experience.
The multi-level cabin has a private geothermal soaking pool, full kitchen, several living areas, decks, and dedicated spaces for yoga, meditation, and relaxing.
It's best suited to smaller groups who want privacy and don't need restaurants, a lobby, or resort activity around them.
Pets are not allowed.
Good for: couples, quiet weekends, wellness trips, private soaking, and small groups.
Hot Springs Resort
Mount Princeton Hot Springs Cabins
If you want a cabin but also want full resort amenities, Mount Princeton is the obvious choice.
The resort's cabins are within walking distance of the hot springs and come in several sizes, from smaller condo-style cabins to larger cabins that can sleep groups of up to ten.
Cabins have kitchens, living areas, fireplaces, and outdoor patios or decks. Overnight guests receive hot springs access, and select cabins are dog-friendly.
Unlike the smaller private hot spring properties, the soaking here is part of a much larger resort with restaurants, spa services, multiple pools, fitness facilities, and seasonal activities.
Good for: families, groups, resort amenities, hot springs, spa trips, and travelers who want everything in one place.

Colorado Basecamps is the standout if you want to be immediately beside the Arkansas River with rafting, fishing, and paddling built into the setting.
For a Private Hot Spring
Look at Antero Hot Springs, Merrifield Homestead, or Aqua if having your own geothermal soaking pool is the main reason for the trip.
For Families
Vista Court's cottages, Mount Princeton's larger cabins, and some of the Colorado Basecamps yurts provide enough space for families without requiring a large vacation house.
For Dogs
Colorado Basecamps and Merrifield welcome dogs, and Mount Princeton has selected dog-friendly cabins. Antero Hot Springs and Aqua do not allow pets.
For an Old Colorado Cabin
Vista Court offers the closest thing to a classic mid-century mountain cabin court, while Antero's historic log cabins have an even older Chalk Creek Canyon feel.
For Full Resort Amenities
Mount Princeton is the choice if you want restaurants, spa services, multiple hot spring pools, activities, and a cabin all on the same property.
